Naturally occuring amino acids are in the L-configuration. The peptide bonds are planer and in proteins almost always trans. Trans isomers of the peptide bond are 4 kcal/mol more stable that cis isomers => 0.1% cis. All aromatic residues (F,Y,W,H) contain a one methylene spacer.
